Medicare and health insurance, explained one topic at a time
I write here about the things people ask me on the phone: how Medicare Advantage and supplements differ, what happens to your drug coverage in January, when you are allowed to change plans, and how to read the letters your insurance company sends you. New articles go up regularly. If a topic you need is not covered yet, call me at (551) 223-3854 and I will answer it directly.

These three pages cover the ground I answer most often. They are written in the same plain language I use on the phone.
- Insurance services I can help you compare: Medicare Advantage, Medigap, Part D drug plans, ACA marketplace coverage, term and permanent life insurance, and supplemental policies, with a plain explanation of how each one works.
- Medicare and insurance questions, answered plainly: twelve questions I hear most, from whether talking with me costs anything to what happens when your prescriptions change mid-year.
- Ways I can help you this year: free consultation, annual coverage review, a side-by-side plan comparison, and free education sessions for groups and senior clubs.
- About Lourdes Hernandez: who I am, where I am licensed, and how I work with people in Florida, New Jersey and North Carolina in English or Spanish.
What I am writing about next
These are the topics in the queue. When one is finished it will be linked from this page.
- Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement? How to decide based on your doctors, your prescriptions and how much you travel.
- Why your Part D drug costs change in January. Formulary tiers, the deductible phase, and what you can do before the year starts.
- Turning 65 while you are still working. How employer coverage and Medicare sort out who pays first.
- What counts as a qualifying life event. The reasons you can enroll in a marketplace plan outside open enrollment.
- How much life insurance a family actually needs. A simple way to get to a number without guessing.
- Reading your annual notice of change. What the letter means and which three lines matter.
If you would rather not wait for the article, call me. Most of these questions take less than twenty minutes to answer on the phone, and the answer will be about your situation instead of a general one.
