About Lourdes Hernandez
I am Lourdes Hernandez, a licensed health and life insurance specialist and the owner of LYS Insurance Agency LLC. I am an independent agent, which means I work for you and not for one insurance company. I am licensed in Florida, New Jersey and North Carolina, and I do this work in English and in Spanish.
Why I do this work
I got into insurance because I watched people I care about get handed a stack of plan summaries and told to choose. Nobody sat with them. Nobody asked what prescriptions they take or which doctors they refuse to give up. They were given paper and left alone with it, and then they were told they had picked wrong.
That is not a fair way to decide something this important. So I do it differently. We talk first. I answer the questions you actually ask, in the order you ask them. If something is not clear, I explain it again a different way. I would rather explain something twice than have you guess and find out in a hospital lobby that your cardiologist was never in the network.
Most of the people I work with fall into three groups: retirees living on a fixed income who need their Medicare costs to be predictable, working families comparing marketplace plans while raising children, and grown children trying to help a parent sort out coverage from another state. All three get the same plain answers from me.
How I work with you
I keep it simple. One agent, one phone number, from the first question through the annual review. You do not get transferred to a call center or handed to whoever is available. When you call, you get me.
- We start with a conversation. Fifteen to thirty minutes on the phone is usually enough to see where you stand. There is no cost and no obligation to enroll.
- Your premium does not change. You pay the same amount whether you enroll through me or on your own. I am paid by the insurance company, not by you.
- Plain language, twice if needed. No jargon and no rushing. If you want to bring a family member on the call, please do.
- I stay reachable. Questions in June matter as much as questions in December. If a claim goes sideways, call me and I will help you work through it.
- A review every year. Plans change and so does your health. We look at yours together and change it when something fits you better.
Where I am licensed and who I serve
I am licensed in Florida, New Jersey and North Carolina. In Florida I work closely with clients in Palm Beach and Broward Counties, where I can meet in person when that helps. For clients in New Jersey and North Carolina, most appointments happen by phone or video, which works well for people who would rather not drive or who are helping a parent from out of state.
I speak English and Spanish. If it is easier for you or for your family to go through this in Spanish, we can do the whole thing in Spanish, including the enrollment paperwork and the plan documents.
What I help with: Medicare Advantage, Medigap and Part D, ACA marketplace health plans for individuals and families, term and permanent life insurance, and supplemental coverage such as medical transport, hospital indemnity, accident and critical illness. I also run free senior education sessions for groups and do an annual coverage review for everyone I work with.
